Scientists Create Open Dataset for Studying Concentration
A team of Russian researchers, including scientists from HSE University–St Petersburg, has developed the first open multimodal dataset containing recordings of brain activity, heart function, and video observations to help researchers understand what happens in the human brain during deep concentration. In the future, the dataset could accelerate the development of neural interfaces, rehabilitation technologies, and AI systems. The article has been published in Scientific Data.

‘Science Is Universal-It Knows No Borders
Fuad Aleskerov, Tenured Professor and Director of the International Centre of Decision Choice and Analysis at HSE University, together with his colleagues, has developed methods of network analysis in bibliometrics that have made it possible to identify patterns in the appearance and citation of publications in academic journals, as well as their influence on each other. When one or a number of studies are frequently cited by a wide range of journals, this is an indicator that the research is of high quality. By contrast, extensive cross-citation within a limited group of journals increases the likelihood of identifying a network of predatory publications.

The relevance of this monograph is due to two factors. Firstly, it is necessary to identify the value priorities of generation Z. Secondly, it is necessary to determine the main trends in developing the modern generation in order to see how different generations can interact more effectively with each other in the conditions of modern educational space. All of this assist to a deeper and more comprehensive study of generational subject-matters, as well as an understanding of its features which are conditioned by the realities of the digital space. The monograph provides an overview of the theories of generations in foreign and Russian studies and its impact on the transformation of the educational process. There are reviewed socio-psychological and cognitive characteristics of modern applicants and students in the context of a generation change. On the basis of the author's research, there are revealed main features of young people - representatives of generation Z, influencing the process of mastering educational programs and obtaining higher education. The porter of an effective professor is introduced as well. There are also offered practical recommendations for improving the educational process in higher education in the monograph. The status of legislation is given as of September 1, 2020. The monograph can be relevant to leaders of the education system, professors of higher educational institutions, teachers, employees of additional professional organizations, graduate students, undergraduates and students of pedagogical and psychological educational institutions.
