This is the analytical review of the exhibition called "The Hare with Amber Eyes: A Hidden Inheritance" (after the eponymous book by Edmund de Waal) which was held from November 2021 to May 2022 at the Jewish Museum in New York. The exhibition was centered around the collection of Japanese netsuke and included numoreous other artefacts of European and Japanese art as well as many archival documents and personal effects of the generations of the Ephrussi banking dynasty of Odessa, Paris and Vienna.
The review discusses the historical background of the collection and artistic value of the exhibits (netsuke and other) and analyses the exhibitioanl decisions and shotcomings of the exposition.
