Survival of the smartest
The purpose of this paper presents our model “four plus one” knowledge types for the analysis of the sustainability of knowledge production and its transfer in modern society. The model includes everyday knowledge, practical knowledge (working skills), corporate knowledge and scientific knowledge. Fifth type of knowledge, i.e. educational knowledge is listed separately as it has dual function: it preserves the knowledge, but it also transfers it between other knowledge types. Knowledge types, which we have chosen, are all linked to economics and production process. Thus, if we define the correct way to estimate the value of knowledge and compare it with the costs of knowledge production, we can conclude that knowledge-based system is sustainable. Further, we analyze a concrete example of possible threats to sustainability of knowledge in Russia as well over the world, - the process, which we called “the knowledge split”. As a result of this process a decreasing amount of personnel with adequate knowledge and professional skills has to process growing volumes of information that has an increasingly less certain and verifiable quality. The model can be successfully applied to the problems of modernization of corporate, educational and scientific knowledge structures.
