La place et le rôle des femmes dans la société russe
The position of women in Russia is characterized by gender inequality in the systemically important areas associated with labor, its payment, unpaid housework, sectoral segregation, the lack of social lifts of upward careers, and the risks of a pandemic time. Nevertheless, the educational qualification and the quality of health and self-preservation, which are high in comparison with men, give Russian women good competitive advantages. Their implementation, however, is tied to deep-rooted stereotypes and a repertoire of gender contracts, under which women are still reserved for a dual employment regime, lower wages for the family budget, and an orientation toward a stable but unassuming work trajectory.
At the same time, there is an institutionally and politically supported strategy of gender equality in Russia. Russia has consistently ratified a number of international documents, the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action of 1995, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, coordinated by the UN Commissioner for Human Rights, and adopted the National Strategy for Action for Women in 2017-2022 years. Nevertheless, there is a gap between the level of declared equality and the great variety of gender-related problems of Russian women.
