‘I Like Self-Fulfilling Prophecies
Andrey Vorchik studies happiness, delivers popular science lectures, and believes that science should address social issues as well. In an interview for the Young Scientists of HSE University project, he spoke about how emotions influence decision-making, the Bermuda Triangle formed by the bathroom, refrigerator, and bed, and the ideal formula for education.

Scientists Create Open Dataset for Studying Concentration
A team of Russian researchers, including scientists from HSE University–St Petersburg, has developed the first open multimodal dataset containing recordings of brain activity, heart function, and video observations to help researchers understand what happens in the human brain during deep concentration. In the future, the dataset could accelerate the development of neural interfaces, rehabilitation technologies, and AI systems. The article has been published in Scientific Data.

New Code-Based Cryptosystem Based on Binary Image of Generalized Reed-Solomon Code

.
Ivanov F., Krouk E., Zyablov V.

McEliece cryptosystem represents a smart open key

system based on the hardness of the decoding of an arbitrary

linear code, which is believed to be able to resist the advent

of quantum computers. But the original McEliece cryptosystem,

based on Goppa codes, has just very limited interest in practice,

partly because it requires a very large public key. In this paper

we propose a new instance of McEliece cryptosystem that reduces

a public key size. This cryptosystem is based on images of

Generalized Reed-Solomon (GRS) codes. It was shown that in

order to break the proposed system, intruder has to solve a

decoding problem for a code that is not equivalent to private

GRS code.

A New Code-Based Cryptosystem
Ivanov F., Krouk E., Kabatiansky G., , in: Code-Based Cryptography. CBCrypto 2020.: Springer, 2020. Ch. 3 P. 41–49.
Unlike most papers devoted to improvements of code-based cryptosystem, where original Goppa codes are substituted by some other codes, we suggest a new method of strengthening which is code-independent. We show (up to some limit) that the security of the new code-based cryptosystem is much closer to the hardness of maximum likelihood decoding than in the ...
