The 'Second Shift' Is Not Why Women Avoid News
Women are more likely than men to avoid political and economic news, but the reasons for this behaviour are linked less to structural inequality or family-related stress than to personal attitudes and the emotional perception of news content. This conclusion was reached by HSE researchers after analysing data from a large-scale survey of more than 10,000 residents across 61 regions of Russia. The study findings have been published in Woman in Russian Society.

Poster: fast and reliable alert delivery in Wi-Fi HaLow sensor networks

P. 1–2.
Khorov E., Lyakhov A., Nasedkin I., Yusupov R.

Rapidly evolving, the Internet of Things poses new challenges for the developers of wireless networks. Various industrial automation, agriculture monitoring, and smart cities scenarios require fast and reliable alert delivery. In many systems, multiple sensors are entrusted to react to the same emergency event. Thus it is enough to receive an alert message from any of these sensors. However, such a message shall be reliably delivered as soon as possible. Recently published Wi-Fi HaLow standard defines the Restricted Access Window (RAW) mechanism that coordinates transmissions of numerous devices and thus can improve reliability and reduce delay. The paper proposes an approach for alert delivery with RAW and investigates how to select optimal RAW parameters, i.e. those parameters that minimize channel time consumption while providing satisfactory reliability and delay for the alert delivery.

Khorov E., Lyakhov A., Yusupov R., , in: 2018 IEEE 19th International Symposium on "A World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks" (WoWMoM).: IEEE, 2018. P. 1–9.
Recently appeared the IEEE 802.11ah standard has introduced a new channel access mechanism, so-called Restricted Access Window (RAW). This mechanism allows an access point (AP) to reduce contention for the channel in overloaded Wi-Fi networks by limiting the number of stations simultaneously accessing the channel. The 802.11ah AP divides all associated stations into groups and ...

Analytical Study of Periodic Restricted Access Window Mechanism for Short Slots
Zazhigina E., Yusupov R., Khorov E. et al., Electronics (MDPI) 2021 Vol. 10 No. 5 Article 549
The tremendous number of devices involved in the Internet of Things is bringing new challenges to wireless networking. The more devices that transmit in a wireless network, the higher the contention for the channel. The novel Wi-Fi HaLow standard introduces a new channel access mechanism called the Periodic Restricted Access Window (PRAW), which aims to ...

Khorov E., Krotov A., Lyakhov A. et al., IEEE Access 2019 Vol. 7 P. 127402–127415
IEEE 802.11ah, a new amendment to the Wi-Fi standard, adapts Wi-Fi networks to the emerging Internet of Things (IoT). A key component of .11ah is the Restricted Access Window (RAW), a new channel access mechanism, which reduces contention when even thousands of IoT devices operate in the same area by assigning them different channel times. ...

What Is the Fastest Way to Connect Stations to a Wi-Fi HaLow Network?
Bankov D., Khorov E., Lyakhov A. et al., Sensors 2018 Vol. 18 No. 9 P. 1–18
Wi-Fi HaLow is an adaptation of the widespread Wi-Fi technology for the Internet of Things scenarios. Such scenarios often involve numerous wireless stations connected to a shared channel, and contention for the channel significantly affects the performance in such networks. Wi-Fi HaLow contains numerous solutions aimed at handling the contention between stations, two of which, ...

P. 181–192.
A heterogeneous wireless network consists of various devices that generate different types of traffic with heterogeneous requirements for bandwidth, maximal delay and energy consumption. An example of such networks is a Wi-Fi HaLow network that serves a big number of Machine Type Communication battery-powered devices and several offloading client stations. The first type of devices ...
