«Двор сборщика податей». Перевоплощения одного сюжета в истории современной китайской керамической скульптуры
On October 1, 1965, a sculpture group of 114 characters was unveiled in a small Chinese museum located in a former mansion in Sichuan province. Created from clay, the figures were placed in the exhibition space without a pedestal, emotionally demonstrating the tribute collection scene to the viewer. The group performed by students and teachers of the Sichuan Academy turned out to be so expressive that they began to copy it. Copies first spread throughout China, then to China-friendly countries. In 1972, the sculptural group was invited to participate in the Kassel Document, and in 1999 it was nominated for the main prize of the Venice Biennale. And in 2008, in different exhibition spaces in New York, not connected with each other, two different copies of the Tax Collector's Court were shown. The history of incarnations and its interpretation became the topic of this article.
