Synthesis of Inorganic Pyrophosphatase-Nanodiamond Conjugates Resistant to Calcium and Fluoride

ACS Omega. 2020. Vol. 5. No. 12. P. 6641–6650.
Valueva A., Romanov R., Vorobyeva N., Kurilova S., Rodina E.

Pyrophosphate arthropathy is the mineralization defect in humanscaused by the deposition of microcrystals of calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate injoint tissues. As a potential therapeutic strategy for the treatment of pyrophosphatearthropathy, delivery of exogenous pyrophosphate-hydrolyzing enzymes, inorganicpyrophosphatases (PPases), to the synovial fluid has been suggested. Previously,we synthesized the conjugates of Escherichia coli PPase (Ec-PPase) with detonationsynthesis nanodiamonds (NDs) as a delivery platform, obtaining the hybridbiomaterial retaining high pyrophosphate-hydrolyzing activity in vitro. However, most known PPases including Ec-PPase in the soluble form are strongly inhibitedby Ca2+ ions. Because synovial fluid contains up to millimolar concentrations ofsoluble calcium, this inhibition might limit the in vivo application of Ec-PPase-based material in joint tissues. In this work, we proposed other bacterial PPasesfrom Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mt-PPase), which are resistant to the inhibition by Ca2+ ions, as an active PPi-hydrolyzing agent. We synthesized conjugates of Mt-PPase with NDs and tested their activity under various conditions. Unexpectedly, conjugates ofboth Ec-PPase and Mt-PPase with aminated NDs retained significant hydrolytic activity in the presence of well-known mechanism-based PPase inhibitors, fluoride or calcium. The incomplete inhibition of PPases by fluoride or calcium was found for the first time.

Advances in colloidal anisotropic nanocrystals for high-efficiency light-emitting diodes
Zhukov A., Chen F., Zeng Y. et al., Nanoscale 2026 Vol. 18 No. 36 P. 19223–19253
Colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals have emerged as promising materials for next-generation light-emitting diodes (LEDs) owing to their solution processability, tunable emission wavelengths, narrow emission linewidths, and high photoluminescence quantum yields. Among them, anisotropic nanocrystals, including one-dimensional nanorods (NRs) and two-dimensional nanoplatelets (NPLs), offer additional opportunities for controlling transition dipole moment orientation and light out-coupling efficiency. These ...

Effect of the hydrogen bond donor nature on the extraction ability of a tributyl phosphate-based deep eutectic solvent
Мальцева В. Е., Ananyev I., Milevskii N. et al., Molecular Systems Design and Engineering 2026 Vol. 11 No. 7 P. 691–704
The use of hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents (DESs) as extractants for metal ion separation is largely due to the ease of their preparation and the possibility of modifying them depending on the composition of the metal mixture to be separated. However, the most common approach to DES modification involves the replacement of the extractant, while ...

Мальцева В. Е., Rozhkov A., Ananyev I. et al., Inorganic Chemistry 2026 Vol. 65 No. 22 P. 12484–12496
Despite the well-established importance of chalcogen bonding in crystal engineering and supramolecular chemistry, experimental charge density data for TeII-centered chalcogen bonds have remained entirely absent, leaving the electronic nature of these interactions uncharacterized at the level of directly measured electron density. Here, we report the first high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD) study of TeII-centered chalcogen bonds, ...

Critical dynamics of conformational exchange in a nearcritical solvent: A statistical-mechanical three-mode theory
Budkov Y., Kiselev M. G., Journal of Chemical Physics 2026 Vol. 165 No. 12 Article 124508
We develop a three-mode statistical-mechanical theory for a two-conformer solute in a near-critical solvent. A compressible lattice model with vacancies yields the Gaussian free-energy functional for a critical conserved density, an orthogonal noncritical conserved mode, and the local conformer fraction. Their couplings follow from packing and cohesive interactions, rather than being introduced phenomenologically. Kawasaki transport of the two conserved fields and ...
