HSE Researchers Make Aldehydes Perform Dual Function
Chemists from HSE University have discovered a way to carry out a reductive addition reaction without using an external reducing agent. Instead, the required 'resource' is supplied by the aldehyde itself, one of the reaction participants. This approach helps prevent unwanted side reactions, reduces toxicity, and simplifies the production and synthesis of organic molecules, including those used in the manufacture of medicines. The study has been published in Journal of Catalysis.

HSE Scientists Explain Why Findings in Autism Research Differ
Researchers from the Cognitive Health and Intelligence Centre at HSE University conducted the first-ever systematic review of studies on the specifics of emotion-from-motion perception in autism. The review showed that differences found between autistic and non-autistic individuals are largely associated with the experimental design and the types of tasks given to study participants. The review findings have been published in Research in Autism.

Insights into the Early Stages of Melamine Cyanurate Nucleation from Aqueous Solution

Crystal Growth & Design. 2021. Vol. 21. No. 4. P. 1984–1992.
Orekhov N., Kondratyuk N., Logunov M., Timralieva A., Shilovskikh V., Skorb E.

On the basis of computational and experimental approaches, we provide molecular-level insights into melamine cyanurate (M-CA) self-assembly in aqueous solution and identify corresponding mechanisms of aggregation. Our analysis implies that small M-CA molecular complexes are stabilized predominantly via aromatic π–π-stacking rather than by formation of hydrogen bonds. We demonstrate that variation of the [M]/[CA] component concentration ratio results in a smooth change in the structure of the critical nuclei from more disordered in the excess of M to more crystal-like in the excess of CA. This behavior can indicate that the process of M-CA nucleation in aqueous solutions could be altered between classical and nonclassical mechanisms depending on the local [M]/[CA] concentration ratio, which could be prospective for the programmable design of functional supramolecular materials.

Optical conductivity of a dirty current-carrying superconductor
Polkin A., Skvortsov M., Physical Review B: Condensed Matter and Materials Physics 2026 Vol. 113 Article 174516
We develop a full microscopic theory for the optical conductivity 𝜎⁡(𝜔) of a dirty current-carrying superconductor. Within the Keldysh sigma model formalism, we obtain the general analytical expression for 𝜎⁡(𝜔), applicable for arbitrary frequency 𝜔, temperature 𝑇, and dc supercurrent 𝐼. In addition to altering the usual Mattis-Bardeen conductivity 𝜎1⁡(𝜔), a finite supercurrent introduces two new contributions: 𝜎qp2⁡(𝜔) from quasiparticle redistribution and 𝜎SH2⁡(𝜔) from the amplitude ...

Thermal phase slips in superconducting films
Skvortsov M., Artem Polkin, Physical Review B: Condensed Matter and Materials Physics 2026 Vol. 113 No. 10 Article 100502
A dissipationless supercurrent state in superconductors can be destroyed by thermal fluctuations. Thermally activated phase slips provide a finite resistance of the sample and are responsible for dark counts in superconducting single-photon detectors. The activation barrier for a phase slip is determined by a space-dependent saddle-point (instanton) configuration of the order parameter. In the one-dimensional ...

Laurinavichyute V., Levin E. E., Mironkova A. A. et al., Surfaces and Interfaces 2026 Vol. 81 P. 108389
In this work we characterize mixed Mo-W acidic deposition solutions with Mo content ranging from 0 to 100 mol.% by Raman and UV–Vis spectroscopy. The obtained distribution diagram of mixed isopolyanions allows one to explain the observed change in film deposition rate with increase in Mo content. It was found that the initial decrease in ...

Growth in noncommutative algebras and entropy in derived categories
Piontkovski D., / Series arXiv "math". 2026.
A noncommutative projective variety is defined, following Artin and Zhang, by a graded coherent algebra 𝐴. The category of coherent sheaves is then the quotient qgr(𝐴) of the category of finitely presented graded modules by the subcategory of torsion modules. We consider the categorical and polynomial entropies of the Serre twist, that is, of the ...

Multilinear nilalgebras and the Jacobian theorem
Piontkovski D., / Series arXiv "math". 2025.
If a symmetric multilinear algebra is weakly nil, then it is Engel. This result may be regarded as an infinite-dimensional analogue of the well-known Jacobian theorem, which states that if a polynomial mapping has a polynomial inverse, then its Jacobian matrix is invertible. This refines a theorem of Gerstenhaber and partially answers a question posed ...

Абрамов-Максимов В. Е., И.А.

In this article, we investigate wave packet and solitary wave dynamics in the Whitham–Ostrovsky (WO) equation. By means of a multiple-scales expansion, we formally derive a nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation governing the envelope evolution. The corresponding modulational stability diagram is then obtained using the Lighthill criterion. We show that sufficiently large values of the low-frequency dispersive term render ...

Lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus, LG-SiO2), horsetail (Equisetum debile, SG-SiO2), and cassava leaves (Manihot esculenta, CL-SiO2) were used to green-synthesize silica (SiO2) nanoparticles (NPs). While LG-SiO2 and SG-SiO2 had strong (101) peaks and a large 22° amorphous peak, XRD of CL-SiO2 verified crystallinity. LG-SiO2 (agglomerated porous), SG-SiO2 (rectangular-cube agglomerates), and CL-SiO2 (flake agglomerates) had different morphologies. The TEM image of LG-SiO2 revealed agglomerated ...
