Энциклика Льва XIII о христианском единстве «Praeclara Gratulationis Publicae» (1894) и ее рецепция А. А. Киреевым
The idea of Christian unity was the central idea of European thought in the second half of the XIX century and the beginning of the XX century. It was caused by the spirit of the time. The nineteenth century is a century of increasing secularization and modernization of European society. The Church gradually moved to the periphery and ceased to be the center of social unity. The author of the article notes that in this context ecumenical projects were eff ective tools of the Church to preserve its position, and justifi es this thesis on the example of the foreign policy of Pope Leo XIII. The article argues that the idea of uniting Christian churches under the rule of Rome was one of the key ideas of the pontifi cate of Leo XIII, in the implementation of which he achieved signifi cant results. The Encyclical Praeclara Gratulationis Publicae is considered as an example of the Pope’s Ecumenical initiatives, as well as its reception by Russian intellectuals, in particular the publicist and late Slavophile A.
