"Королевское суперинтендантство над всею Галликанской церковью". Об одном малоизвестном проекте времен Генриха II (1556)
On the base of Dicaearchiae Henrici Regis Christianissimi Progymnasmata (1556), a work of the avocat de Parlement de Paris Raoul Spifamе, the author suggests the possible aspects of the reform of the Gallican Church that was planned but had never taken place during the reign of king Henry II of France (1546–1559). During the so-called “Gallican Crisis” (1551–1152). French clergy according to the will of the king actually ignored the work of
the Council of Trent. Pope Julius III accused the king of preparing a schism, and the royal council discussed the possibility of establishing a Patriarchate in France. Spifamе was acquainted with the king’s councillors who prepared
reforms in other fi elds so he could know about the discussion of these topics. Spifame’s book was written in the form of fi ctional royal arrêts and designed to reform all matters in the kingdom. A considerable part of the decrees is
devoted to plans for the reform of the Gallican Church: from the elevation of the bishopric of Paris to an archbishop’s (that really happened later) and even patriarchal rank, to tightening control over the morals of prelates and a
new regulation of church services. This article focuses on how Raoul Spifamе established the royal superintendence over the Gallcan Church.
