The article is devoted to the assessment of approaches to the description of innovation systems. An extensive corpus of various approaches to describing innovation systems has been analyzed in order to reflect the most relevant parameters of innovation systems. It is shown that the most relevant approach is the open innovation system, and the least relevant is the description of the innovation system as a set of elements.
