‘Balkan Hospitality Opens Doors: Studying Dialects on the Verge of Extinction
You cannot study spoken dialects from books. Instead, you need to go to a village, seek out its elders, and earn the trust of local residents before you can record hours of spontaneous stories. This is how Natalia Muravleva, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, conducts her research. Her internship in Serbia continued her long-standing study of dialects spoken by Macedonian settlers. In this interview, she discusses how diaspora cultural centres help researchers reach informants, why native speakers need to be interviewed only in their own language (otherwise, as she puts it, they may 'break'), and how a single field season helped her finalise her monograph. She also shares warm memories of autumn in Belgrade and of colleagues with whom grammar can be discussed in three languages at once.

Shapiro Steps in ballistic Josephson junction based on a single Bi2Te2.3Se0.7 nanocrystal
Stolyarov V. S., Kozlov S. N., Yakovlev D. S. et al., Communications Materials 2026 Vol. 7 Article 91
Superconducting proximity junctions based on topological insulators are widely believed to harbor Majorana-like bound states. If so, the static current phase relationship (CPR) should have a 4π-periodic component. It is then usually assumed that the static CPR can be extended to treat dynamic, voltage-biased, experiments and can justify the suppression of the first phase-lock-in microwave ...

Cooper pair splitting controlled by a temperature gradient
Golubev D., Zaikin A., Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology 2023 Vol. 14 P. 61–67
Electrons in two different normal metallic electrodes attached to a sufficiently thin superconducting island may become entangled due to the effect of Cooper pair splitting. This phenomenon is of fundamental importance and may also have serious implications for developing quantum communication technologies. One way to identify Cooper pair splitting is to analyze long-range cross correlations ...

Nonlinear microwave response of clean superconducting films
Radkevich A., Semenov A. G., Physical Review B: Condensed Matter and Materials Physics 2022 Vol. 106 No. 9 Article 094505
We develop an explicitly gauge-invariant semiclassical approach to investigate the nonlinear response of superconductors to monochromatic terahertz radiation. We demonstrate that in clean superconductors charge conservation forbids nonlinear response to a uniform field. We apply our approach to quasi-two-dimensional films and obtain an explicit expression for the photoinduced current. We find that the photoinduced current ...

Superconducting spin valves based on a single spiral magnetic layer
Pugach N., Safonchik M. O., Belotelov V. et al., / Series "cond-mat". 2022. No. 2110.00369.
A detailed investigation of a superconducting spin-triplet valve is presented. This spin-valve consists of a superconducting film covering a metal with an intrinsic spiral magnetic order, which could result from competing isotropic exchanges or, if the crystal lattice breaks central symmetry, from asymmetric Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya exchange. Depending on the anisotropy, such a metal may change its ...
