The 'Second Shift' Is Not Why Women Avoid News
Women are more likely than men to avoid political and economic news, but the reasons for this behaviour are linked less to structural inequality or family-related stress than to personal attitudes and the emotional perception of news content. This conclusion was reached by HSE researchers after analysing data from a large-scale survey of more than 10,000 residents across 61 regions of Russia. The study findings have been published in Woman in Russian Society.

A Comparative Study on Multi-Channel Access Methods in 5G NR-U Networks

P. 1–6.
Zhdanovskiy V., Loginov V., Lyakhov A., Khorov E.

To satisfy the increasing demands for high throughput of 5G networks, 3GPP has designed the NR-U technology allowing a cellular base station (gNB) to utilize unlicensed frequency bands. In particular, with NR-U, a gNB can operate in the 5 GHz frequency bands already used by widely deployed Wi-Fi networks.
Obviously, to achieve the best performance, a gNB must use a part of the spectrum as wide as possible. However, a gNB usually cannot simultaneously transmit in one channel and receive data or perform channel access procedure in another channel because of the RF power leakage problem. To cope with this problem and fully exploit all the benefits of the unlicensed spectrum, the NR-U specification defines several multi-channel access methods. However, the specification does not provide any guidelines about the selection of the appropriate method depending on network conditions or other factors.
In this paper, we survey and compare all the multi-channel access methods defined in the NR-U specification and also several proposals from the literature. We evaluate the efficiency of each method in dense network scenarios and determine in which scenarios one methods outperform the others.

Boosting TCP & QUIC Performance in mmWave, Terahertz, and Lightwave Wireless Networks: a Survey
E. Khorov, A. Krasilov, M. Susloparov et al., IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials 2023 Vol. 25 No. 4 P. 2862–2891
Emerging wireless systems target to provide multi-Gbps data rates for each user, which can be achieved by utilizing ultra-wide channels available at mmWave, terahertz, and lightwave frequencies. In contrast to the traditional spectrum below 6 GHz, these high-frequency bands raise many issues, complicating their usage. For example, because of high signal attenuation and blockage by ...

© 2020 IEEE.Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is a key technology for future wireless systems. Keeping the number of antennas on the devices unchanged, NOMA increases the spectral efficiency of the wireless system and raises the aggregated system throughput. For this reason, NOMA is a very attractive technology for implementation in future Wi-Fi standards that will ...

Khorov E., Kureev A., Ilya Levitsky et al., IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications 2022 Vol. 40 No. 4 P. 1346–1354
Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is a well-accepted technology for future Wi-Fi systems to improve spectral efficiency. NOMA allows an access point (AP) to simultaneously serve multiple devices by splitting the transmit power between them. Using the superposition coding the AP combines signals of different frames with predefined power weights. However, as it is already known, ...

Nowadays, the Direction of Arrival (DoA) estimation problem attracts much attention because of emerging use cases for wireless networks. DoA is beneficial for Reconfigurable IntelligentSurfaces, indoor localization, and various navigation and sensing applications, such as gesture recognition and home monitoring. The Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm is very promising for DoAestimation because it provides better ...

Enhanced Collision Resolution Methods With Mini-slot Support for 5G NR-U
Loginov V., Троегубов А. Ю., Lyakhov A. et al., IEEE Access 2021 P. 146137–146152
To improve the capacity of cellular systems without additional expenses on licensed frequency bands, the 3GPP consortium has designed cellular technologies that use the unlicensed spectrum. The important peculiarity of the usage models of these technologies, the latest of which is New Radio Unlicensed (NR-U), is the coexistence with Wi-Fi networks deployed in the same ...

This paper studies the usage of orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) for uplink transmissions in IEEE 802.11ax networks. OFDMA enables simultaneous multi-user transmissions in Wi-Fi, but its usage requires efficient resource allocation algorithms. These algorithms should be able to adapt to the changing channel conditions, including the frequency-selective fading. This paper presents an OFDMA ...

New Radio-Unlicensed (NR-U) is a technology that allows fifth generation mobile networks to utilize unlicensed frequency bands, in particular, the 5 GHz band. To increase throughput, an NR-U base station (gNB) can simultaneously operate in several frequency channels within the 5 GHz band. However, the gNB cannot always transmit data through one channel and, at ...

To achieve higher throughputs in cellular networks, 3GPP proposes to use unlicensed frequency bands and develops technologies - the latest one is NR-U - allowing a cellular base station to transmit in unlicensed bands, which are already occupied by Wi-Fi networks. To enable fair channel sharing between two technologies, the base station uses a sort ...
