Based on the analysis of official statistics, the author comes to the conclusion that the entry into force in 2000 of the free trade agreement between Mexico and the European Union has contributed to the dynamic development of the trade and investment relations between the partners. As a result, the EU has become Mexico’s third most important foreign trade partner and the second most important investor to this country. However, the new economic and geopolitical realities of the 21st century, as well as the increased competition in the Latin American region, caused the revision of this agreement, which was successfully achieved in April 2018.
