For the first time, microinsurance appeared as an additional service for micro-crediting the population in India, but later became a separate structure. Dror and Jacquier (1999) described microinsurance as a source of social protection for the part of the population that has unequal access or refuses to participate in social life, but is not always poor. An interesting work is the study by Biener, Christian (2011), which justifies the effectiveness of microinsurance. If we talk about a two-level approach to the characteristics of this type of activity, then, on the one hand, the prefix "micro" focuses on the low level of society on which this tool operates. On the other hand, it means insignificant expenses both for the insurance company (in the form of payment) and for the policyholders (payment of the premium). At the same time, the amount of premiums collected can be quite significant. Accordingly, the reasons for the spread of this mechanism are of interest, which determined the purpose of the work - to identify factors that affect the choice of microinsurance by the population of a number of countries. Developing countries were selected for the study: Africa, Asia and Oceania, Latin America and the Caribbean. An additional result is the justification of the reasons and arguments for the need to create and further develop microinsurance in Russia as a social protection mechanism. The study will use comparative and regression analysis. Various scientific articles from periodicals, monographs, reports of micro-insurance organizations, and Internet resources were used in the research.
