The author analyzes in a comparative manner the attitudes of the founder of the formalist photography Anzel Adams and the photographic series of Ivan Fedorovich Zhdanov. In the course of comparison, a number of common features that are related to the work of Zhdanov and Adams – the closeness to nature, the illusion of complete and organic fusion with it, the conscious deficit of the theory, i.e. the preference for «pure vision», environmental sensitivity.
