Scientists Develop Algorithm for More Reliable Processors in Data Centres
Researchers from HSE MIEM and Samara University have developed the LRF-3D algorithm to automatically bypass idle nodes in three-dimensional networks-on-chip. Thanks to its hierarchical architecture, the algorithm outperforms existing solutions in both speed and path accuracy, improving processor reliability for use in data centres, supercomputers, and AI computing. The source code and test results are publicly available.

Researchers Develop Method for Direct Generation of Regulatory DNA
Researchers at HSE University have developed a model for generating promoters and enhancers—DNA sequences that regulate gene activity. The model works directly with DNA nucleotides, without first transforming them into a continuous numerical representation. This solution could be useful for applications in synthetic biology and gene therapy. The study results were presented at the ICLR 2026 Workshop ‘Generative AI in Genomics (Gen^2): Barriers and Frontiers.’

Social Integration: At the Crossroads of Knowledge and Values
The International Laboratory for Social Integration Research (ILSIR) at HSE University studies the challenges faced by vulnerable groups and explores ways to help them participate fully in everyday life. To develop effective solutions, the laboratory’s researchers combine cutting-edge methods with practical fieldwork. In this interview with the HSE News Service, Laboratory Head Elena Iarskaia-Smirnova discusses the laboratory’s work.

Grow externally, but do your homework. The impact of pre-event operating performance on the transaction outcome.

P. 220–241.
Vinogradova, Veronika
In press

Even though corporate M&A have been widely analyzed in the academic literature, the results of those studies are highly contradicting. For this reason, M&A research is often described as a “theory of single cases”. This paper turns to the intrinsic intent of acquisition as a growth strategy and investigates in-depth the key characteristics of the strategic acquisitions for growth. Based on the principles of value-based management and fundamental performance of the acquiring company it develops a framework defining the strategic acquisitions for growth and outlines how do they differ from other transactions, e.g. restructuring mergers. Additionally, it empirically analyzes how do the key fundamental determinants of the acquiring companies influence investors’ reaction around the announcement and therefore, the value created through the transaction. The results show that a successful strategic acquisition is rather a matter of thoughtful financial planning. Overall, it can be concluded that the right choice of strategy based on the intrinsic pre-event performance of the acquiring firm as well as knowledge where does the value comes from, can significantly impact the outcome and profitability of transaction.

This paper extends the previous research on strategic transactions (M&A) and focuses on the analysis of the relationship between the pre-event performance of acquiring companies and value creation in strategic acquisitions for growth. It identifies the prerequisites of successful transactions and tests empirically how the key fundamental determinants of the acquiring companies influence investors’ reaction ...

Value Creation in Strategic M&A: How to make your growth strategy value-creating?
Vinogradova, Veronika, Journal of Finance and Investment Analysis 2015 No. 4/1 P. 79–99
Strategic M&As mean focus on growth (e.g. revenue growth) and aim to enhance the firm's competitive position. The academic literature reports, however, an extremely high failure rate of strategic M&As – their outcomes are very difficult to forecast and they are extremely risky. Complexity increases even further, if we add the international perspective. At the ...
