HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

'The Humanities Serve as a Conscience'
Maria Mizernaia studies Soviet literature and the history of book publishing. In this interview for the HSE Young Scientists project, she discusses plans to publish a novel about besieged Leningrad, AI-provoked reflections on what it means to be human, and how novels can help satisfy our dopamine hunger.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

Intellimetry as a way to ensure AI trustworthiness

.
Garbuk S.

The article is about the issues of AI systems compliance confirmation with the requirements. It is shown that in the conditions of using the artificial intelligence technologies for solving various application tasks, the trustworthiness of AI systems on demand is the particular importance. Features of artificial intelligence systems trustworthiness confirmation are considered. A set of measuring methods for the functionality and quality assessment of intelligent systems is proposed to allocate in an independent direction, called "Applied Intellimetry". The formalization of basic concepts and problems of Applied Intellimetry are proposed.

SmartHealth technologies are evolving rapidly, and the emerging Medicine 5.0 paradigm highlights the need for artificial intelligence that pairs high performance with explainability, transparency, and ethical soundness. However, many neural- network approaches remain “black boxes,” limiting their uptake in clinical practice, where justification and trust are essential. This article reviews their applications in diagnosis, monitoring ...

Overtrusting robots: Setting a research agenda to mitigate overtrust in automation
Aroyo A., de Bruyne J., Dheu O. et al., Paladyn, Journal of Behavioral Robotics 2021 No. 12 P. 423–426
A broad range of participants brought in their expertise, allowing formulation of a forward-looking research agenda on overtrust and automation biases in robotics and autonomous systems. Key points include the need for multidisciplinary understandings that are situated in an eco-system perspective, the consideration of adjacent concepts such as deception and anthropomorphization, a connection to ongoing legal discussions ...
