Лев Шестов – наш современник
The terrible tension of the philosophy of the Shestov tragedy is more than preserved today: it’s impossible to decide on a riot, it can be unbearable to refuse a riot. Yes, rebellion leads to the fact that a person loses everything and, above all, himself, but what if there is no strength to endure and put up? Yes, Shestov’s revolt and Pugachev’s revolt are, ultimately, of the same order, but where is the strength to curb and overcome their revolt (unless, of course, it is not the power of torture and execution)? It is unlikely that these problems will ever get a solution - perhaps, as long as we are aware of their significance until they stop torturing us, we can continue our joint cultural life without losing either human dignity or a human face.
