Цивитас между миром и войной: последний шаг
The article highlights the last rite before the war start that was performed by fetiales i.e. rite of spear throwing to the enemy land after proclamation of solemn formula of declaration of war. This finishing rite was an important part of the sequence of acts of different kind aimed to make bellum iustum, that should have been warrant support of gods and success in war. Spear rite could be compared with widely known rites of passage that played an important role in the archaic society. At the end, the acts of the fetiales during declaration of war was restricted with performance of the mentioned spear rite. Up to the author's mind, the main reason is general tendency typical for Republic from the its beginnings that was negative for the political authorities of the priests and restricted functions of priests to the religious acts and consultations on the matter. Division of diplomatic and priestly acts as initial features of roman preliminaries of war contributed the matter as well.
