HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

Metric structural human connectomes: Localization and multifractality of eigenmodes
Bobyleva A., Gorsky A., Nechaev S. et al., Network Neuroscience 2025 Vol. 9 No. 2 P. 682–711
We explore the fundamental principles underlying the architecture of the human brain’s structural connectome through the lens of spectral analysis of Laplacian and adjacency matrices. Building on the idea that the brain balances efficient information processing with minimizing wiring costs, our goal is to understand how the metric properties of the connectome relate to the ...

Clique detection with a given reliability
Semenov D., Koldanov A. P., Koldanov P. et al., Annals of Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence 2024
In this paper we propose a new notion of a clique reliability. The clique reliability is understood as the ratio of the number of statistically significant links in a clique to the number of edges of the clique. This notion relies on a recently proposed original technique for separating inferences about pairwise connections between vertices ...

Koldanov A. P., Koldanov P., Semenov D., Журнал Новой экономической ассоциации 2021 Т. 2 № 50 С. 12–34
. The problem of analysis of pairwise connections between stocks of financial market by observations on stock returns is considered. Such problem arise in stock market network analysis. It is assumed that joint distribution of stock returns belongs to the wide class of elliptical distributions. Classical Pearson correlation, Fechner correlation and Kendall correlation are used ...

Сарматская археологическая культура: от спекулятивной модели к сетевой
Mordvintseva V., Вестник древней истории 2020 Т. 80 № 4 С. 1062–1083
The assumption that cultures are clearly defined, essentially self-contained entities has been subjected to serious doubt in modern archaeology which needs to be reflected also in Sarmatian studies. Such concepts as ‘Sarmatians’, ‘Sarmatian period’ and ‘Sarmatian archaeological culture(s)’ are widely used in archaeological literature. However, the monuments of the different macro-regions that are usually connected in scholarship with the various ...

A robustness comparison of two market network models
Semenov D., Koldanov A. P., Koldanov P. et al., IMA Journal Management Mathematics 2022 Vol. 33 No. 1 P. 123–137
Two market network models are investigated. One of them is based on the classical Pearson correlation as the measure of association between stocks returns, whereas the second one is based on the sign similarity measure of association between stocks returns. We study the uncertainty of identification procedures for the following market network characteristics: distribution of weights of edges, vertex ...

Statistical Analysis of Graph Structures in Random Variable Networks
Kalyagin V. A., Koldanov A. P., Koldanov P. et al., Springer, 2020.
This book studies complex systems with elements represented by random variables. Its main goal is to study and compare uncertainty of algorithms of network structure identification with applications to market network analysis. For this, a mathematical model of random variable network is introduced, uncertainty of identification procedure is defined through a risk function, random variables ...

Equivalence of Network Structures in Networks of Random Variables with Known and Unknown Shift Parameter
Koldanov P., Journal of Mathematical Sciences 2020 Vol. 248 No. 1 P. 129–137
It is proved that sign network with elliptical distribution with known shift parameter is equivalent to sign network with elliptical distribution with unknown shift parameter estimated as sample mean. This result is proved for the case of independent identically distributed observation and for the case of sample from matrix elliptically contoured distribution with any dependence between observations. ...

Identification of network structures using the finite-size sample has been considered. The concepts of random variables network and network model, which is a complete weighted graph, have been introduced. Two types of network structures have been investigated: network structures with an arbitrary number of elements and network structures with a fixed number of elements of the network model. The ...

The main goal of the present paper is the development of a general framework of multivariate network analysis of statistical data sets. A general method of multivariate network construction, on the basis of measures of association, is proposed. In this paper we consider Pearson correlation network, sign similarity network, Fechner correlation network, Kruskal correlation network, ...
