Neural Network Maps as a Method for Constructing Mathematical Models
Scientists from HSE University–Nizhny Novgorod and the Institute of Physics Belgrade, Serbia, are jointly exploring the application of machine learning techniques and neural networks to the study of nonlinear dynamics. Natalya Stankevich, Leading Research Fellow at the Laboratory of Topological Methods in Dynamics of the Faculty of Informatics, Mathematics, and Computer Science at HSE University–Nizhny Novgorod, spoke to the HSE News Service about this international project.

‘In the Age of Technology, It Is Interesting to Look into the Past and Think about What We Can Take from It
Polina Tabakova decided to apply for a Philology degree at HSE in Nizhny Novgorod because she grew up in Mari El and did not want to move far away from the Russian forests. In an interview for the Young Scientists of HSE University project, she spoke about the genre of the campus novel, the existential drama of Kolobok, and a blackout version of Eugene Onegin.

HSE Scientists Develop Method to Compress Large Language Models Without Losing Quality
Researchers from the AI and Digital Science Institute at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new compression method for large language models such as GPT and LLaMA that reduces their size by 25–36% without additional training or significant loss of accuracy. This is the first approach to use mathematical transformations—specifically, rotations of model weights—to make models more amenable to compression with structured matrices. The study results have been published in ACL Findings 2025. The code is available on GitHub.

Application of a prospective assisted reproductive technologies register for calculating the probability of pregnancy

P. 1237–1242.
Zykov S. V., Lebedev G., Shakhova M., Kholin A., Malyarenko O., Bondarenko V.

In this article, the requirements for a prospective register of assisted reproductive technologies are considered. The basis of such a register is a specialized data store - the electronic passport of the woman’s reproductive health. This register will serve as a basis to analyse the effectiveness of the use of assisted reproductive technologies and for supporting the making of medical decisions about the likelihood of pregnancy.

Isupova O. G., Русанова Н. Е., Народонаселение 2021 № 4 С. 34–46
Assisted reproductive technologies (ART) are an innovative area of medicine having the potential to positively influence population fertility. However, this potential is limited, among other factors, by values and ethical barriers to their use in prospective patients. Decisions on whether to use them or not, in the case of reproductive health disorders, may be associated not only with ...

The Legitimation of Commercial Surrogacy in Russia
Dushina A. D., Kersha Y., Larkina T. et al., Russian Education and Society 2016 Vol. 58 No. 12 P. 789–815
Commodification is becoming an increasingly common phenomenon in the modern world. A vivid example of the commodification of unique objects is commercial surrogacy services, which transform the status of motherhood from being a “woman’s social vocation” into a service whose end product is a human life that is valued in monetary terms. According to Igor ...

Collision of Media Positions on Assisted Reproductive Technologies
Емельянова Т. П., Vopilova I., Russian Education and Society 2016 Vol. 58 No. 7-8 P. 576–589
An analysis of the discourse on assisted reproductive technologies (ART) indicates the predominance of conservative representations of the family. The appearance of new technologies does not change the image of a “normal” family, because concepts connected with surrogate mothers and egg donors are minimally present in the discourse. In this case, there are contradictory points ...
