'Cultural Studies Seeks to Understand What Lies Beneath the Surface of Everyday Things'
Maxim Zhiganov has been exploring different aspects of sound for many years—first in relation to his native Perm and then on a broader, global scale. In this interview for the HSE Young Scientists project, he talks about sound maps, the special issue of the journal Logos, and why it is important to make the familiar less clear and obvious.

At HSE University–St Petersburg, Experts Discuss How AI Changes Tourist Routes and Cultural Heritage
Neural networks are no longer simple travel assistants; now they decide what to include on the route and what to skip. Artificial intelligence changes how people perceive a place and shapes the image of tourist centres. At the II International Scientific and Practical Conference ’Information Technologies in the Preservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage,’ researchers discussed who controls algorithmic solutions and in what ways, and whether authentic traditions get lost in them.

Road Injuries Leading Cause of Death Among Men Aged 10 to 39
Worldwide, road injuries are the leading cause of death among males aged 10–39. An international team of researchers reached this conclusion as part of the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023, analysing data from 204 countries between 1990 and 2023. Their findings have been published in The Lancet Public Health, with HSE University Professor Vasily Vlassov listed among the collaborators.

Simulation of car collision while overtaking with moving into the oncoming lane

P. 1–5.
Alexander N. Varnavsky, Sinitsina N.

In the paper simulation models of traffic accidents are proposed. Statistical modeling the probability of these road accidents occurrences was implemented. The dependences of the probability of occurrence automobile-pedestrian accidents on various parameters of road systems were described.

Sergey Kivalov, Lopes de Gerenyu V., Khoroshaev D. et al., Forests 2023 Vol. 14 No. 8 Article 1568
Soil respiration (SR) is a main component of the carbon cycle in terrestrial ecosystems, and being strongly affected by changes in the environment, it is a good indicator of the ecosystem’s ability to cope with climate change. This research aims to find better empirical SR models using 25-year-long SR monitoring in two forest ecosystems formed on sandy Entic ...

EVALUATION OF THE DEPENDABILITY INDICATORS OF THE RESTORED EQUIPMENT BY THE SIMULATION METHOD
Zhadnov V. V., , in: Information Innovative Technologies: Materials of the International scientific – рractical conference.: M.: Association of graduates and employees of AFEA named after prof. Zhukovsky, 2021. P. 207–211.
The report discusses the application of simulation modeling to dependability prediction of the restored equipment. A formal model is described that allows forming time diagrams of the states of both the components and the equipment as a whole. It is shown that the use of such a model allows us to estimate the availability function ...

The issues of forming the operating time to failure of a multi-channel voltage converter with a backbone-modular architecture and combined redundancy of its power channels of the “N+1+K” type in statistical modeling are considered. A formal model of the converter with mixed redundancy is proposed, which allows for the implementation of the converter's operating time ...

Zhadnov V. V., , in: Information Innovative Technologies: Materials of the International scientific – рractical conference.: M.: Association of graduates and employees of AFEA named after prof. Zhukovsky, 2020. P. 142–149.
The problems of forming the operating time to failure of multi-channel voltage converter for statistical modeling are considered. A formal model of the converter with “N out of M active redundancy” is proposed, which allows for the calculation of the converter's operating time taking into account changes in the electrical load of the channels in ...

Zhadnov V. V., , in: Information Innovative Technologies: Materials of the International scientific – рractical conference.: M.: Association of graduates and employees of AFEA named after prof. Zhukovsky, 2019. P. 125–130.
The paper the model is considered, allowing to receive realization of an operating time of an electronic component for the set model of its operation. The model was obtained within the limits of those limitations and assumptions that are adopted in regulatory documents on the reliability of electronic components. ...
