A New Attempt at Reconstructing Proto-Aramaic (Part II)

The paper is the second part of the author’s essay in the Proto-Aramaic reconstruc-
tion. In the first chapter of the present contribution, the writer tries to make plausible
the idea according to which the Eastern Aramaic plural nominal ending -ē made its
appearance in Proto-Eastern Aramaic and had been borrowed by this language from
the Assyrian variety of Akkadian. The borrowing hypothesis has been forwarded for
want of a better solution. In the second chapter, the author attempts to prove that the
Middle Eastern Aramaic resultative constructions qtīl- l- and qattīl- may have started
their career already in Proto-Eastern Aramaic.
