Вновь опознанная картина Джачинто Бранди (1621-1691). A newly identified painting of Giacinto Brandi (1621-1691)
An anonymous Italian painting from the Novocherkassk Museum of the history of Don Cossacks (inv.870, oil on canvas, 101,5 x 78) has been recently restored at the Grabar Art Conservation Centre. Here it is attributed to Giacinto Brandi (1621-1691), the date 1670-1680 is proposed. An X-radiography revealed a sketch of Leda with a swan beneath an image of Saint Mary Magdalene. By theme and style it could be related to the frescoes of the Pamphilj palace in Rome, painted by Brandi in 1647-1653. Other paintings in Russian museums, attributed to G.Brandi, are briefly discussed. Another painting, restored at the Grabar Art Conservation Centre, from the Museum of Architecture (inv. P.IV-9), is identified as a partial copy of the composition from a private collection, which has been attributed to G.Brandi by F.Zeri.
