The object of the present article is the research of the legal status of the French Corps Législatif during the period of the Second Empire in France (1852-1870). The author carefully studied its organization and competence. A. Volkov makes two general conclusions. On the one hand the Constitution of 1951 demonstrates how democratic, republican institution could be used for the purpose of the instauration of the authoritarian regime. On the other – the Corps Législatif even with its limited competence and other restrictions of the status, became the basis of the following restriction of the head of the State.
