HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

Search for supersymmetry in electroweak production with photons and large missing transverse energy in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV

Physics Letters B. 2016. Vol. 759. P. 479–500.
Khachatryan V., Ratnikov F.

Results are reported from a search for supersymmetry with gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking in electroweak production. Final states with photons and large missing transverse energy ( ) were examined. The data sample was collected in pp collisions at  with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to 7.4. The analysis focuses on scenarios in which the lightest neutralino has bino- or wino-like components, resulting in decays to photons and gravitinos, where the gravitinos escape undetected. The data were obtained using a specially designed trigger with dedicated low thresholds, providing good sensitivity to signatures with photons, , and low hadronic energy. No excess of events over the standard model expectation is observed. The results are interpreted using the model of general gauge mediation. With the wino mass fixed at 10 above that of the bino, wino masses below 710 are excluded at 95% confidence level. Constraints are also set in the context of two simplified models, for which the analysis sets the lowest cross section limits on the electroweak production of supersymmetric particles.

Large-𝑁 solution and effective action of a twisted-mass deformed CP⁢(𝑁−1) model
E. Ievlev, Sumbatian G., A. Yung, Physical Review D - Particles, Fields, Gravitation and Cosmology 2024 Vol. 109 No. 8 Article 085021
We study effective dynamics of the nonsupersymmetric two-dimensional CP(N-1) model in the large N limit. This model is deformed by a mass term m preserving Z_N symmetry of the Lagrangian. At small m the theory is strongly coupled and resembles the undeformed CP(N-1) model, while at large m it is in a weakly coupled Higgs phase with spontaneously broken Z_N.We ...

Flux compactification for the critical non-Abelian vortex and quark masses
A. Yung, Physical Review D - Particles, Fields, Gravitation and Cosmology 2021 Vol. 104 No. 2 Article 025007
It has been shown that non-Abelian solitonic vortex strings supported in four-dimensional (4D) N = 2 supersymmetric QCD (SQCD) with the U(2) gauge group and N_f =4 quark flavors behave as critical superstrings. In addition to four translational moduli, the non-Abelian strings under consideration carry six orientational and size moduli. Together they form a ten-dimensional space required for a superstring to ...

Critical non-Abelian vortices and holography for little string theory
E. Ievlev, A. Yung, Physical Review D - Particles, Fields, Gravitation and Cosmology 2021 Vol. 104 No. 11 Article 114033
It has been shown that non-Abelian vortex string supported in four-dimensional (4D) N =2 supersymmetric QCD (SQCD) with the U(2) gauge group and N_f =4 quark flavors becomes a critical superstring. This string propagates in the ten-dimensional space formed by a product of the flat 4D space and an internal space given by a Calabi-Yau noncompact threefold, namely, ...

First Evidence for cos2β>0 and Resolution of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa Quark-Mixing Unitarity Triangle Ambiguity
Aushev T., Mizuk R., Pakhlov P. et al., Physical Review Letters 2018 Vol. 121 No. 26 P. 1–11
We present first evidence that the cosine of the CP-violating weak phase 2β is positive, and hence exclude trigonometric multifold solutions of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) Unitarity Triangle using a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis of B0→D(∗)h0 with D→KS0π+π- decays, where h0 {π0,η,ω} denotes a light unflavored and neutral hadron. The measurement is performed combining the final ...

Measurements of the Higgs boson production and decay rates and constraints on its couplings from a combined ATLAS and CMS analysis of the LHC pp collision data at √s=7 and 8 TeV
Сапронов А. А., Aad G., Glazov A. et al., Journal of High Energy Physics 2016 Vol. 1608 No. 045 P. 1–75
Combined ATLAS and CMS measurements of the Higgs boson production and decay rates, as well as constraints on its couplings to vector bosons and fermions, are presented. The combination is based on the analysis of five production processes, namely gluon fusion, vector boson fusion, and associated production with a W or a Z boson or ...

4d N=1 quiver gauge theories and the A_n Bailey lemma
Brunner F., Spiridonov V., Journal of High Energy Physics 2018 Vol. 2018 No. 03 P. 1–29
We study the integral Bailey lemma associated with the A_n-root system and identities for elliptic hypergeometric integrals generated thereby. Interpreting integrals as superconformal indices of four-dimensional N = 1 quiver gauge theories with the gauge groups being products of SU(n + 1), we provide evidence for various new dualities. Further con rmation is achieved by explicitly checking that the ...

Splitting theorem for Z2 n-supermanifolds
Covolo T., Grabowski J., Poncin N., Journal of Geometry and Physics 2016 Vol. 110 P. 393–401
Smooth <img />-supermanifolds have been introduced and studied recently. The corresponding sign rule is given by the ‘scalar product’ of the involved <img />-degrees. It exhibits interesting changes in comparison with the sign rule using the parity of the total degree. With the new rule, nonzero degree even coordinates are not nilpotent, and even (resp., odd) coordinates ...

ϒ(nS) polarizations versus particle multiplicity in pp collisions at ps = 7 TeV
Khachatryan V., Ratnikov F., Physics Letters B 2016 Vol. 761 P. 31–52
The polarizations of the ϒ(1S), ϒ(2S), and ϒ(3S) mesons are measured as a function of the charged particle multiplicity in proton–proton collisions at <img />. The measurements are performed with a dimuon data sample collected in 2011 by the CMS experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.9 fb−1. The results are extracted from the dimuon decay angular distributions, in two ranges of ϒ(nS)transverse momentum ...

Instantons and 2d Superconformal field theory
Bershtein M., Белавин А. А., Белавин В. А., Journal of High Energy Physics 2011 Vol. 9 No. 117
A recently proposed correspondence between 4-dimensional N=2 SUSY SU(k) gauge theories on R^4/Z_m and SU(k) Toda-like theories with Z_m parafermionic symmetry is used to construct four-point N=1 super Liouville conformal block, which corresponds to the particular case k=m=2.  The construction is based on the conjectural relation between moduli spaces of SU(2) instantons on R^4/Z_2 and algebras ...
