The article deals with important issues of Russia’s accession to the WTO in the context of Russia-EU trade and economic relations. Author defines major irritants in different aspects of bilateral trade relations. Trade disputes and a range of Russian domestic barriers slow down development of economic relations. Russia’s WTO membership falls short of optimistic expectations. Nevertheless it is still the basic driver for successful Russia-EU economic cooperation, because WTO dispute settlement mechanism allows partners to protect their interests within the rule-based system.
