HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

Income and factor substitution: an investigation on the Solow growth model under the constant elasticity of substitution
Alatas S., Journal of Economic Studies 2022 Vol. 49 No. 3 P. 397–421
The purpose of this study is to examine whether the elasticity of substitution (ES) varies between developed and developing countries. The author derives the growth regressions from the Solow model under the constant elasticity of substitution production function by using the first-order Taylor series expansion and estimate them for each country group classified based on ...

Sedat Alataş, Karakaya E., Hiçyılmaz B., Sustainable Production and Consumption 2021 Vol. 27 P. 411–424
This study argues that improving material efficiency should be seriously considered as a mitigation policy objective alongside energy efficiency in order to meet the net-zero carbon targets and climate mitigation policies should be designed at the industry level based on the industry-specific needs and peculiarities. Therefore, by highlighting the emerging role of material use in greenhouse ...

Towards a carbon-neutral economy: The dynamics of factor substitution in Germany
Alatas S., Environmental Science and Pollution Research 2020 Vol. 27 No. 21 P. 26554–26569
This paper investigates the elasticity of substitution between four inputs—capital, labor, energy, and material—with the translog cost approach for a wide range of industries in Germany by incorporating the slow adjustment process in factor substitution. To this end, we take advantage of EU KLEMS database covering a wide range of industries and consider two models. ...

Эластичность замещения Аллена-Узавы для неоднородных производственных функций
Burmistrova E., Lobanov S. G., American Scientific Journal 2018 Т. 18 № 1 С. 23–30
This note proves that the representation of the Allen elasticity of substitution obtained by Uzawa for linear homogeneous functions holds true for nonhomogeneous functions. It is shown that the criticism of the Allen-Uzawa elasticity of substitution in the works of Blackorby, Primont, Russell is based on an incorrect example. ...

In this chapter we aim to consider the interdependence between total factor productivity, economic welfare, and political institutions using BRICS as an empirical example. While relationships between each pair of factors have already been subject to scientific inquiry, we attempt to look at the productivity-institutions nexus in conjunction with economic development. We utilize nonparametric methods ...
