On the basis of historical, linguistic and paleogeographic analysis the authors propose what they consider to be the only possible interpretation of the much-disputed phrase from the scribe Savva’s record in the manuscript of Shestodnev (Hexaemeron) written in Pskov in 1374. The phrase refers to the Pskovites’ public discussion of a change in the route of a new stone wall as compared to the old wooden one. The changes concerned the section of the wall near the New Ascension female Monastery. The pragmatic approach not involving additional costs took over. The monastery remained outside the city walls on the Posad.1
