In the article the author attempts to reconstruct the exhibition “Soviet Turkmenistan”, which was organized at The Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow in 1935. According to periodical press and archival documents, the author retrace the exhibition’s history, describes the main exhibited paintings, illuminates the reaction of the Soviet public and critics to the presented paintings, enter “Soviet Turkmenistan” in the context of Central Asian exhibition of the 1930s.
