Investigation of Image Reconstruction Methods for Real-Time Rendering Enhancement: A Case Study in Unity
This paper presents a comparative study of real-time image reconstruction methods implemented in the Unity High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP). The spatial method CAS and the temporal methods TAAU and FSR 2 are examined. Experiments are conducted at target resolutions of 1920×1080 and 2560×1440 with rendering scales s = 0.67 and s = 0.5 across three types of scenes: an urban scene, a forest scene, and a scene with a large number of particles. Fidelity to reference images is evaluated using PSNR, SSIM, and LPIPS metrics, while performance is assessed in terms of frame time, frame rate (FPS), and memory usage. The results demonstrate that the effectiveness of the methods depends on the scene characteristics and the selected rendering scale: temporal methods generally provide higher visual quality, whereas the spatial approach yields greater performance gains. Based on the obtained results, recommendations for selecting an appropriate reconstruction method under various rendering conditions are formulated.
