How to Assess Students Knowledge in the Age of AI
A researcher at HSE University has proposed a flowchart to help lecturers decide how to assess students who use artificial intelligence. It shows where the use of AI should be restricted and where it can be incorporated into the learning process. The article has been published in IT Professional.

‘Balkan Hospitality Opens Doors: Studying Dialects on the Verge of Extinction
You cannot study spoken dialects from books. Instead, you need to go to a village, seek out its elders, and earn the trust of local residents before you can record hours of spontaneous stories. This is how Natalia Muravleva, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, conducts her research. Her internship in Serbia continued her long-standing study of dialects spoken by Macedonian settlers. In this interview, she discusses how diaspora cultural centres help researchers reach informants, why native speakers need to be interviewed only in their own language (otherwise, as she puts it, they may 'break'), and how a single field season helped her finalise her monograph. She also shares warm memories of autumn in Belgrade and of colleagues with whom grammar can be discussed in three languages at once.

Scientists Train Neural Network to Generate Process Plans from 3D Models
Researchers at the HSE FCS AI and Digital Science Institute have developed CAD2TechSpec, a framework that converts 3D models of mechanical parts into machining process plans—step-by-step instructions for machine tools. The solution aims to reduce the time required for the design and preparation of technical process documentation in mechanical engineering, aircraft manufacturing, and other high-tech industries. The study findings have been published in PeerJ Computer Science.

Специализированные относительные местоимения, образованные от вопросительных, в славянских языках
Kholodilova M., Вопросы языкознания 2020 № 4 С. 7–24
Relative clauses in some Slavic languages can be introduced by relative pronouns derived from interrogatives with specialized markers, such as ‑to in Bulgarian, ‑r in Slovenian, and što in Macedonian. The distribution of these pronouns varies drastically from language to language. While in Modern Standard Bulgarian, Slovenian, and Sorbian languages derived interrogative-based relative pronouns are ...

Relative clause and resumptive pronouns in Mehweb
Lander Yu., Kozhukhar A., , in: The Mehweb language: Essays on phonology, morphology and syntax.: Berlin: Language Science Press, 2019. Ch. 11 P. 295–314.
East Caucasian relative clause constructions (RCCs) are sometimes viewed as constructed mainly on the basis of semantic and pragmatic information. In this paper, we consider RCCs in Mehweb and argue that, despite the fact that the interpretation of some of them may rely exclusively on semantics, syntactic mechanisms may also come into play in their organization. We present evidence ...

Syntactic structure of participial clauses in Meadow Mari
Volkova A. A., / Series WP BRP "Basic research program". 2017. No. 54.
It is generally assumed that the syntactic structure of participial relative clauses is impoverished, “reduced” in comparison to that of regular RCs (see a. o. Burzio 1981; Chomsky 1981; Hazout 2001; Siloni 1995; Stowell 1981). Participial RCs are often analysed as VP-like structures (for some, embedded under a nominalizing node, Doron & Reintges 2005; Hazout ...

Modifier incorporation in Dargwa nominals
Lander Yu., / NRU HSE. Series WP BRP "Linguistics". 2014. No. 12/LNG/2014.
In Dargwa languages, which constitute a branch of the Northeast Caucasian language family, certain nominal attributes may be either marked with a dedicated attributive suffix or appear without it. While it is sometimes said that the short form of the modifier serves as a base for deriving the full form, I propose an alternative direction ...

Типология немаркированного клаузального подчинения: относительные конструкции
Lander Y., Вопросы языкознания 2014 № 1 С. 3–20
The paper discusses a kind of relative constructions without dedicated markers of subordination. The author focuses on the problems related to their differentiation from other patterns, the grammatical means that may imply subordination without expressing it directly and touches upon the diachronic issues concerning unmarked relatives. ...
