Physicists Discover What Happens Inside a Stable Vortex
Large vortices with characteristic spiral arms are often observed in the atmosphere and the ocean. Physicists from HSE University have explained how these structures form and why they retain their shape. The researchers found that velocities at points located along the same vortex arc remain correlated even over long distances. At the same time, this correlation weakens rapidly with increasing distance from the vortex centre. These differences help explain the formation of spiral arms and may improve models of atmospheric and oceanic currents. The findings have been published in Physical Review Fluids.

Reconceptualizing Identity in the Information Age: The Role of Temporal Focus in IT identity Shaping

P. 1–5.
Zabelina E., Lukmanova I., AlexandraTelitsyna, Kurnosova S., Trushina I.

In the information age, individuals increasingly construct and negotiate their identities through interactions with information technologies. This study reconceptualizes identity formation by examining the role of temporal focus—orientation toward the past, present, and future—in shaping IT identity. Drawing on identity theory and temporal perspective research, the paper develops a conceptual framework explaining how different temporal orientations influence individuals’ perceptions, meanings, and integration of information technologies into their self-concept. The analysis demonstrates that future-oriented temporal focus facilitates proactive engagement with emerging technologies and the development of aspirational IT identities, while present-oriented focus emphasizes situational use and experiential alignment with technologies. In contrast, past-oriented focus anchors IT identity in prior experiences, routines, and established technological practices, potentially constraining adaptation and innovation. By highlighting temporal focus as a key yet underexplored mechanism in IT identity shaping, this study contributes to information systems and sociotechnical research by offering a dynamic perspective on identity construction in digitally mediated environments. The proposed framework provides implications for understanding technology adoption, digital transformation, and human–technology interaction in contemporary organizations and societies.

This study addresses this gap by ...

Пространственно-деятельная идентичность как представление о «территории свободы»
Oberemko O. A., Социологический журнал 2008 № 3 С. 62–81
The article describes an interactionist, special and activist conception of individual social identity, based on a sociological understanding of un/freedom to act. “Social identity” is interpreted after H. Tajfel (as a regulatory cognitive entity), as "knowledge of one’s belonging to a certain social group added by emotional and evaluative aspects". Adapting to the social environment and ...
