Эффективность согласования одномодового волокна с фотонной интегральной схемой Si3N4
End-face splicing of optical fibers with waveguides in Si3N4-based photonic integrated circuits (PICs) has been optimized. The mode sizes of the optical fiber and waveguide have been matched for end-face splicing. This was achieved by splicing a single-mode optical fiber with a high-numerical aperture fiber, which reduces the mode size of the optical fiber. A chip-side converter based on a linear inverted end-face taper was developed and manufactured. The linear inverted end-face taper is a trapezoidal prism whose wide portion is adjacent to the waveguide and tapers to 0.3 μm at the PIC chip ends. The trapezoid at the base of this prism has a height of 300 μm. This approach has been experimentally demonstrated to reduce splicing losses for end-face splicing to 0.7 dB per end.
