Черепица из раскопок поселения Балан-1 в Колхиде
This article presents the preliminary publication of materials related to
the mass production of architectural ceramics, specifically roof tiles, uncovered during the
investigation of the ancient settlement of Balan-1 between 2019 and 2022. The
assemblage comprises fragments of solenes dated to the late 5th–4th centuries BC.
At least one sample, identified through the visual characteristics of its ceramic fabric, can
be attributed to production in Sinope. The remaining specimens are more likely
to be of local origin. Although relatively scarce and fragmentary, the presence
of roof tiles provides compelling evidence for the existence of buildings with ceramic
roofing systems at the site. This, in turn, signifies interactions between the local population
and bearers of Hellenic material culture.
