Immunity to Chaos: How Personal Resources Help Us Cope with the Challenges of a Turbulent World
International conflicts, crises and digital overload—the modern world puts our minds to the test every day. Traditional psychology often focuses on the consequences: anxiety, depression, and psychosomatic disorders. But what if we looked at the problem differently—through the lens of the resources that prevent us from breaking down? Psychological immunity is precisely this set of resources. Alena Zolotareva and her group, Psychological Immunity as a Resource for Positive Functioning, are developing an integrative model of this phenomenon, adapting diagnostic tools and preparing for large-scale empirical research. Why do psychologists need to collaborate with medical professionals, and how could their research transform preventive care in clinics and corporations?

How to Assess Students Knowledge in the Age of AI
A researcher at HSE University has proposed a flowchart to help lecturers decide how to assess students who use artificial intelligence. It shows where the use of AI should be restricted and where it can be incorporated into the learning process. The article has been published in IT Professional.

‘Balkan Hospitality Opens Doors: Studying Dialects on the Verge of Extinction
You cannot study spoken dialects from books. Instead, you need to go to a village, seek out its elders, and earn the trust of local residents before you can record hours of spontaneous stories. This is how Natalia Muravleva, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, conducts her research. Her internship in Serbia continued her long-standing study of dialects spoken by Macedonian settlers. In this interview, she discusses how diaspora cultural centres help researchers reach informants, why native speakers need to be interviewed only in their own language (otherwise, as she puts it, they may 'break'), and how a single field season helped her finalise her monograph. She also shares warm memories of autumn in Belgrade and of colleagues with whom grammar can be discussed in three languages at once.

Incentives in matching markets: counting and comparing manipulating agents
Bonkoungou S., Alexander Nesterov, Theoretical Economics 2023 Vol. 18 No. 3 P. 965–991
Manipulability is a threat to the successful design of centralized matching markets. However, in many applications some manipulation is inevitable and the designer wants to compare manipulable mechanisms. We count the number of agents with an incentive to manipulate and rank mechanisms by their level of manipulability. This ranking sheds a new light on practical ...

We study the algorithms for evaluation of manipulatility of aggregation procedures. We consider 27 known aggregation procedures and generalized scoring rules, when the weights of second or second and third alternatives are different. Both Impartial Culture and Impartial Anonymous Culture are studied. We calculate 6 manipulability indices including well-known Nitzan-Kelly index. We provide asymptotic estimations ...

Karabekyan D., Ivanov A., Yakuba V. I.,

Ranking journals in sociology, education and public administration by social choice theory methods
Aleskerov F. T., Boriskova A. M., Pislyakov V. et al., / NRU Higher School of Economics. Series SOC "Sociology". 2016.
An analysis of journals’ rankings based on five commonly used bibliometric indicators (impact factor, article influence score, SNIP, SJR, and H-index) has been conducted. It is shown that despite the high correlation, these single-indicator-based rankings are not identical. Therefore, new approach to ranking academic journals is proposed based on the aggregation of single bibliometric indicators ...

Impartial Anonymous Culture
Ivanov A., Karabekyan D., Yakuba V. I.,

One of the most important branches of cognitive-map-based tools development is constructing a cognitive map being an integrated model of knowledge by a group of experts. We survey the procedures for group maps construction suggested by leading theo-rists and practitioners and analyze the risks incurred by these tech-niques and their reliability. We show that a ...

The difference between manipulability indices in the IC and IANC models
Veselova Y. A., Social Choice and Welfare 2016 Vol. 46 No. 3 P. 609–638
We consider the calculation of Nitzan-Kelly’s manipulability index in the impartial anonymous and neutral culture (IANC) model. We provide a new theoretical study of this model and an estimation for the maximal difference between manipulability indices in the IANC model and a basic model, the impartial culture (IC). The asymptotic behavior of this difference is ...

The difference between manipulability indexes in IC and IANC models
Veselova Y. A., / NRU Higher School of Economics. Series EC "Economics". 2012. No. 17/EC/2012.
We consider the problem of manipulability of social choice rules in the impartial anonymous and neutral culture model (IANC) and provide a new theoretical study of the IANC model, which allows us to analytically derive the difference between the Nitzan-Kelly index in the Impartial Culture (IC) and IANC models. We show in which cases this ...
