Структура внешкольного времени и развитие школьника: эффекты, социально-экономический статус и территория проживания
The article examines the structure of extracurricular time for schoolchildren and its influence on youth development in the context of socio-economic status and place of residence. The relevance of the study lies in the changes that have occurred in organizing children’s leisure, where organized activities replace free time. The aim of the work is to evaluate the structure of extracurricular time for students in grades 5–8 and to identify relationships with socio-economic status, place of residence, and learning outcomes. The study employed quantitative analysis methods using data from a survey of 2,451 students in Yaroslavl and the Yaroslavl region. The results showed that students from families with a high socio-economic status have more organized and productive extracurricular time and better academic performance, compared to children from families with low status. Significant differences in the structure of time were also found between urban and rural schoolchildren. The results indicate the relationships between the structure of students’ time use and learning outcomes: more organized and productive unstructured time is associated with higher academic performance and the development of cooperation skills and persistence. The findings emphasize the need to consider these factors in developing effective educational programs and policies in the field of extracurricular education.
