Особенности регионального варианта английского языка на Аляске

The understudied variety of English in Alaska (Alaskan English), which is spoken by Native Alaskans living in rural areas, presents great scientific interest, primarily due to its linguistic specificities as well as historical context and conditions of its emergence. The aim of this article is to reveal and analyse some of the linguistic traits of the Alaskan variety. The data used in the present study encompasses 73 transсribed semi-structured interviews containing personal narratives of Native Alaskans of various ethnic origins and generations, whose language acquisition took place in different contexts. In particular, the narratives of Upper Kuskokwim Athabascans and the representatives of Kodiak Creole population have been analysed. Comparative analysis of text fragments has been employed in order to examine morpho-syntactic and lexical differences between Alaskan English, Standard English and other varieties as well as to explore the discrepancies in the way Alaskan English is used by various groups of native population. Apart from that, content-analysis and narrative analysis have been applied in order to fulfill the research goals. The results contribute to a better understanding of certain characteristics of the Alaskan variety and some factors which played a significant role in their appearance; they also serve as a basis for future investigation of language situation in the region.
