Барьеры при подготовке диссертаций в российской аспирантуре. Современная аналитика образования № 2 (85)
This report analyzes the key stages of reforms in Russian doctoral education from 2012 to 2023 — a period marked by a decline in the proportion of timely dissertation defenses. Drawing on survey data from doctoral graduates, the report examines primary barriers to completing a PhD dissertation in Russia. These include financial constraints, academic challenges, organizational difficulties, issues in the advisor–advisee relationship, and personal obstacles. The barriers identified by graduates are further elaborated using data from a survey of current doctoral students. The report was prepared as part of the project “Transformation of Doctoral Education in China and Russia” under the “International Academic Cooperation” initiative of HSE University, based on data collected through the Monitoring of Education Markets and Organizations.
The results obtained are of interest to researchers and experts in the field of higher education, heads of doctoral programs departments in universities and scientific organizations, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
