The 'Second Shift' Is Not Why Women Avoid News
Women are more likely than men to avoid political and economic news, but the reasons for this behaviour are linked less to structural inequality or family-related stress than to personal attitudes and the emotional perception of news content. This conclusion was reached by HSE researchers after analysing data from a large-scale survey of more than 10,000 residents across 61 regions of Russia. The study findings have been published in Woman in Russian Society.

Improving Text Retrieval Efficiency with Pattern Structures on Parse Thickets
Kuznetsov S., Strok F. V., Ilvovsky D. et al., , in: Proceedings of the Workshop Formal Concept Analysis Meets Information RetrievalVol. 977.: M.: CEUR Workshop Proceedings, 2013. P. 6–21.
We develop a graph representation and learning technique for parse  structures for paragraphs of text. We introduce Parse Thicket (PT) as a sum of  syntactic parse trees augmented by a number of arcs for inter-sentence word-word relations such as co-reference and taxonomic relations. These arcs are also derived from other sources, including Speech Act and ...

Ilvovsky D., Klimushkin M. A., , in: Proceedings of the Workshop Formal Concept Analysis Meets Information RetrievalVol. 977.: M.: CEUR Workshop Proceedings, 2013. P. 44–54.
A new approach for detecting duplicates in ontology built on real redundant data is considered. This approach is based on transforma- tion of initial ontology into a formal context and processing this context using methods of Formal Concept Analysis (FCA). As a part of a new method we also introduce a new index for measuring ...

Ising models on the hydrogen peroxide and other lattices
Qin X., Deng Y., Shchur L. et al., / Series arXiv "math". 2026. No. 2603.02962.
We perform a Monte Carlo analysis of the Ising model on many three-dimensional lattices. By means of finite-size scaling we obtain the critical points and determine the scaling dimensions. As expected, the critical exponents agree with the three-dimensional Ising universality class for all models. The irrelevant field, as revealed by the correction-to-scaling amplitudes, appears to ...

Algorithmic overlaps as thermodynamic variables: from local to cluster Monte Carlo dynamics in critical phenomena
Pilé I., Deng Y., Shchur L., / Series arXiv "math". 2026. No. 2604.10254.
We investigate the spatial overlap of successive spin configurations in Markov chain Monte Carlo simulations using the local Metropolis algorithm and the Svendsen-Wang and Wolff cluster algorithms. We examine the dynamics of these algorithms for two models in different universality classes: the Ising model and the Potts model with three components. The overlap of two ...

Using predefined vector systems to speed up neural network multimillion class classification
Gabdullin N., Androsov I., / Series Computer Science "arxiv.org". 2026.
Label prediction in neural networks (NNs) has O(n) complexity proportional to the number of classes. This holds true for classification using fully connected layers and cosine similarity with some set of class prototypes. In this paper we show that if NN latent space (LS) geometry is known and possesses specific properties, label prediction complexity can ...

SMMR: Sampling-Based MMR Reranking for Faster, More Diverse, and Balanced Recommendations and Retrieval
Liakhnovich K., Lashinin O., Babkin A. et al., Proceedings of the 48th International ACM SIGIR Conference on Research and Development in Information Retrieval 2025 P. 2754–2758
Relevance and diversity are critical objectives in modern information retrieval (IR), particularly in recommender systems. Achieving a balance between relevance (exploitation) and diversity (exploration) optimizes user satisfaction and business goals such as catalog coverage and novelty. While existing post-processing reranking methods address this trade-off, they usually rely on greedy strategies, leading to suboptimal outcomes for ...

Implementing Transport Coding in OMNeT++ for Message Delay Reduction
Petrovanov I., Sergeev A., / Series Computer Science "arxiv.org". 2025. No. 2512.18332.
Transport coding reduces message delay in packet-switched networks by introducing controlled redundancy at the transport layer:  original packets are encoded into  coded packets, and the message is reconstructed after the first  successful deliveries, effectively shifting latency from the maximum packet delay to the -th order statistic. We present a concise, reproducible discrete-event implementation of transport coding in OMNeT++, including ...

Junyu B., Fei H., Huilin F. et al., International Journal of Approximate Reasoning 2025 Vol. 187 Article 109541
In Formal Concept Analysis (FCA), concept reduction serves as an important means of simplification. The application scenarios of concept reduction cover various aspects such as data mining, knowledge discovery, strategic decision-making, and rule learning. For symmetric formal contexts, a specialized class of concept reduction exists that can fully recover all knowledge. However, most existing concept ...

Determining the boundary of dynamical chaos in the generalized Chirikov map via machine learning
Chernyshov D., Satanin A., Shchur L., / Series arXiv "math". 2025.
We investigate the boundary separating regular and chaotic dynamics in the generalized Chirikov map, an extension of the standard map with phase-shifted secondary kicks. Lyapunov maps were computed across the parameter space (K,K(α, τ)) and used to train a convolutional neural network (ResNet18) for binary classification of dynamical regimes. The model reproduces the known critical ...
