Working paper

Казус Карлейля, или кто расстроил экономическую науку с другими социальными и гуманитарными дисциплинами

The paper examines an origin and meaning of the phrase “dismal science” which in the mid of 19 century T. Carlyle used to castigate political economy of his days. Author demonstrates that it was Carlyle who marked the beginning to a persis-tent antagonism between economics and other social and humanitarian disciplines. In retrospect it seems evident that this inter-disciplinary schism had a detrimental effect on further progress of scientifi c knowledge about society.
