Anhand der protestantischen Predigt aus den Jahren 1914-1918 in Deutschland werden die Auswirkungen der historischen Ereignisse auf eine bestimmte Textsorte untersucht. Die Predigttexte dieser Epoche demonstrieren markante heterogene Merkmale. Die Heterogenität kommt in den Texten dadurch zustande, dass Redegegestand und Kommunikationsziele “unterschoben” werden. Das Ziel der Kommunikation in den erforschten Texten ist es, die nationale Überlegenheit der Deutschen gegenüber den anderen Völkern zu beweisen und den Krieg zu rechtfertigen. Der Krieg selbst wird zum Gegenstand, zum Subjekt der Rede. Solche Unterschiebung wirkt sich in der Wahl der Bilder und Vergleiche aus.
