The emergence of social platforms as a new tool of social influence has a direct impact on the mechanisms of public censure. Being a popular practice nowadays, cancel culture. The article defines the phenomenon of cancel culture and gives its main characteristics. A special role in its emergence is played by social networks that shape public opinion. For a comprehensive analysis of the concept under study, the features of social isolation and the mechanisms for their implementation are considered. The studied practices are considered as evolutionary steps towards the formation of a modern cancel culture. The article concludes with a comparative analysis of cancel culture with the practices of social exclusion to identify similarities and conceptually new features of the phenomenon.
