‘Balkan Hospitality Opens Doors: Studying Dialects on the Verge of Extinction
You cannot study spoken dialects from books. Instead, you need to go to a village, seek out its elders, and earn the trust of local residents before you can record hours of spontaneous stories. This is how Natalia Muravleva, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, conducts her research. Her internship in Serbia continued her long-standing study of dialects spoken by Macedonian settlers. In this interview, she discusses how diaspora cultural centres help researchers reach informants, why native speakers need to be interviewed only in their own language (otherwise, as she puts it, they may 'break'), and how a single field season helped her finalise her monograph. She also shares warm memories of autumn in Belgrade and of colleagues with whom grammar can be discussed in three languages at once.

Scientists Train Neural Network to Generate Process Plans from 3D Models
Researchers at the HSE FCS AI and Digital Science Institute have developed CAD2TechSpec, a framework that converts 3D models of mechanical parts into machining process plans—step-by-step instructions for machine tools. The solution aims to reduce the time required for the design and preparation of technical process documentation in mechanical engineering, aircraft manufacturing, and other high-tech industries. The study findings have been published in PeerJ Computer Science.

Biologists Discover 'Molecular Fingerprint' of Preeclampsia
Researchers at HSE University employed a new method to model hypoxia in placental cells during pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia and identified molecular markers of tissue hypoxia. Since hypoxia is one of the key mechanisms underlying preeclampsia, these findings are important for a more accurate and timely diagnosis of the disease and for the development of effective treatment methods. The paper has been published in Placenta.

Support of Real-Time Applications in Wi-Fi 8 with Multi-AP Coordinated Parameterized Spatial Reuse

P. 226–231.
Chemrov K., Bankov D., Khorov E., Lyakhov A.

Parameterized Spatial Reuse (PSR) is a Wi-Fi 6 mechanism, which allows a station to transmit its frame simultaneously with a trigger-based transmission from another network, provided that the station reduces its transmission power to decrease the induced interference. PSR can be extremely useful for real-time applications (RTAs) because it allows a station to transmit urgent data without waiting for the channel to become idle, and thus PSR can significantly reduce delays. Because of tight delay constraints, all the access points (APs) operating in the same area and the same channel shall regularly provide PSR opportunity for RTA traffic. For that, the APs need to exchange information about channel conditions and traffic and coordinate their schedules accordingly, which is a key feature of the future Wi-Fi 8 standard. The paper studies how to arrange such coordination in Wi-Fi 8 multi-AP deployments and proposes a scheduling approach, which significantly reduces channel access delays for RTA traffic almost without degrading the performance of the regular delay-tolerant traffic.

A tutorial on Wi-Fi 8: The journey to ultra high reliability
A. Karamyshev, Levitsky Ilya, Bankov D. et al., Problems of Information Transmission 2025 Vol. 61 No. 2 P. 164–210
Wi-Fi is evolving to support new areas such as extended reality, Industrial Internet of Things, and environments with numerous devices. Unlike previous generations that aimed to maximize peak and user-perceived throughput, Wi-Fi 8 (also known as IEEE 802.11bn Ultra High Reliability) intends to make Wi-Fi operation more reliable, i.e., to improve performance across the full range ...

Bankov D., Lyakhov A., Khorov E. et al., Journal of Communications Technology and Electronics 2021 Vol. 66 No. 12 P. 1476–1484
The support of real-time applications, such as virtual and augmented reality, remote control, and video streaming services, is important for next-generation Wi-Fi networks. For this purpose, it is planned to add several new technical features to the IEEE 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7) standard that is currently under development, which will help to secure low latency. One ...

Serving real-time applications, such as virtual and augmented reality, remote control and video streamin, is an important use case for next-generation Wi-Fi networks. To achieve it, the currently developed IEEE 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7) standard introduces several new features that can guarantee low latency. One of such innovations is the support for the simultaneous transmission and ...

Real-Time Applications (RTA) are among the most important use cases for future Wi-Fi 7, defined by the IEEE 802.11be standard. This paper studies two backward-compatible channel access approaches to satisfy the strict quality of service (QoS) requirements of RTA on the transmission latency and packet loss rate that have been considered in the 802.11be Task ...

Recently, low message delay becomes more and more important. It allows the implementation of new applications and services interacting in almost real time that was impossible before. A requirement of low message delay now is a part of many communication standards such as 5G and recommendation papers of future standards such as Tactile Internet proposed by ITU-T. In ...
