Neural Network Maps as a Method for Constructing Mathematical Models
Scientists from HSE University–Nizhny Novgorod and the Institute of Physics Belgrade, Serbia, are jointly exploring the application of machine learning techniques and neural networks to the study of nonlinear dynamics. Natalya Stankevich, Leading Research Fellow at the Laboratory of Topological Methods in Dynamics of the Faculty of Informatics, Mathematics, and Computer Science at HSE University–Nizhny Novgorod, spoke to the HSE News Service about this international project.

‘In the Age of Technology, It Is Interesting to Look into the Past and Think about What We Can Take from It
Polina Tabakova decided to apply for a Philology degree at HSE in Nizhny Novgorod because she grew up in Mari El and did not want to move far away from the Russian forests. In an interview for the Young Scientists of HSE University project, she spoke about the genre of the campus novel, the existential drama of Kolobok, and a blackout version of Eugene Onegin.

HSE Scientists Develop Method to Compress Large Language Models Without Losing Quality
Researchers from the AI and Digital Science Institute at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new compression method for large language models such as GPT and LLaMA that reduces their size by 25–36% without additional training or significant loss of accuracy. This is the first approach to use mathematical transformations—specifically, rotations of model weights—to make models more amenable to compression with structured matrices. The study results have been published in ACL Findings 2025. The code is available on GitHub.

Orbital flips due to solar radiation pressure for space debris in near-circular orbits
Belkin S., Kuznetsov E., Acta Astronautica 2021 Vol. 178 P. 360–369
Orbital plane flips, a transition from prograde to retrograde motion or vice versa, is a phenomenon due to solar radiation pressure that is investigated. We consider initial near-circular orbits with different inclinations, including the vicinity of orbits of the GNSS satellites, GEO, geosynchronous orbits, and super-GEO region. Dynamical evolution of orbits is studied from a ...

A Radical Approach to Reducing Effects of Quartz Crystal Oscillator Instability on GNSS Receiver Performance
Zhodzishsky M., Kurynin R. V., Veitsel A. V., , in: 2020 Systems of Signal Synchronization, Generating and Processing in Telecommunications (SYNCHROINFO).: IEEE, 2020. P. 1–18.
The paper is devoted to a radical way to increase vibration resistance of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) signal receivers (GLONASS, GPS, etc.). The method is based on the use of a common (quartz) loop in addition to individual loops– traditional for GNSS receivers phase locked loops (PLL), each of which monitors a separate radio ...

A Method of Evaluating the g-sensitivity of Quartz Oscillators in GNSS Receivers
Kurynin R. V., , in: 2019 Systems of Signal Synchronization, Generating and Processing in Telecommunications (SYNCHROINFO), IEEE Conference # 47541.: IEEE, 2019. P. 1–5.
Modern global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) receivers use temperature-compensated crystal oscillators (TCXO) as generators of reference frequency. One of the parameters of quartz oscillators is its stability to output frequency when oscillators are subject to acceleration and vibrations. Such a stability is assessed by g-sensitivity value. Relatively high g-sensitivity of quartz oscillators can result in ...

Dynamic and Noise Properties of PLL Circuits in GNSS Receivers
Zhodzishsky M. I., Veitsel V. A., Kurynin R. V. et al., , in: 2019 Systems of Signal Synchronization, Generating and Processing in Telecommunications (SYNCHROINFO), IEEE Conference # 47541.: IEEE, 2019. P. 1–9.
Different dynamic and noise characteristics of hardware-software systems of phase lock loops (PLL) within global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) receivers capable of operating under strong dynamic external effects have been considered in the present paper. Most operations in hardware-software systems are performed in processor at relatively low rate of time discretization, the signals of many ...

Comparative Analysis of Velocity Measuring Methods for GNSS Receivers
Kurynin R. V., , in: SYNCHROINFO 2018 Systems of Signal Synchronization, Generating and Processing in Telecommunications, IEEE Conference # 43613.: IEEE, 2018. P. 1–9.
This paper is a continuation of the author’s previous study on methods of velocity measurements of navigation receivers and devoted to their comparative analysis.  Each method of measuring velocity has a few parameters. Let us fix all parameters except for one (main) and vary this parameter. The value of each varied parameter corresponds to some noise error of velocity measurements which ...

Methods for Velocity Measuring of Navigation Receivers
Zhodzishsky M. I., Kurynin R. V., , in: SYNCHROINFO 2018 Systems of Signal Synchronization, Generating and Processing in Telecommunications, IEEE Conference # 43613.: IEEE, 2018. P. 1–7.
Measurements of velocity in navigation receivers are performed in two stages. At the primary (after-satellite) processing stage each of received signals is synchronized using a separate PLL, after that an estimation block (EB) estimates nonenergy (phase and frequency) and energy (SNR) parameters of the received signal. Doppler primary estimations can be subject to after-satellite filtration to obtain secondary frequency estimates. A ...

The present paper discusses different techniques of measuring Carrier-to-Noise density ratio (C/N0) in navigation and information-communication systems. C/N0 means the ratio of the received signal power to the noise spectral density N0 at receiver's input (at the output of an antenna with a low-noise amplifier (LNA)). Correlation processing is performed in the receiver to obtain in-phase (I) ...

Раздельная и совместная фазовая синхронизация и оценка местоположения и скорости движения приемников ГНСС
Zhodzishsky M. I., Kurynin R. V.,

A subject of the study are systems of synchronization and motion parameters estimation for global positioning satellite systems (GLONASS, GPS, Galileo and others) receivers. Two synchronization systems are considered in the paper: a traditionally used system with separate synchronization in each navigation channel and an alternative one – with joint synchronization of all the signals. ...

Nonlinear models of BPSK Costas loop
E.V. Kudryashova, Kuznetsova O. A., Kuznetsov N. V. et al., Proceedings of the IEEE 2014 No. 1 P. 704–710
Rigorous nonlinear analysis of the physical model of Costas loop is very difficult task, so for analysis, simplified mathematical models and numerical simulation are widely used. In the work it is shown that the use of simplified mathematical models, and the application of non rigorous methods of analysis may lead to wrong conclusions concerning the ...
