HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

'The Humanities Serve as a Conscience'
Maria Mizernaia studies Soviet literature and the history of book publishing. In this interview for the HSE Young Scientists project, she discusses plans to publish a novel about besieged Leningrad, AI-provoked reflections on what it means to be human, and how novels can help satisfy our dopamine hunger.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

Шайдулин А. Т., Orlovskaya E., Popov A. et al., Journal of Nanoparticle Research 2025 Vol. 27 Article 320
Nanoparticles (NPs) exhibiting X-ray excited UV-C luminescence can be used in radia tion therapy to deactivate cancer cells through pho tochemical reactions of DNA with UV-C quanta. Colloidal solutions of monoclinic La1−xPrxPO4 NPs (x = 0.01–0.3), luminescent in the UV-C range (220–280 nm), with different morphologies, from nanofiber (diameter and length not larger than 15 and ...

Dispersion characteristics of the folded waveguide with electron beam
Mozgovoi Y. D., Khritkin S. A., Nikitina E. M., , in: 2018 International Conference on Actual Problems of Electron Devices Engineering (APEDE).: Саратов: IEEE, 2018. P. 113–119.
In the framework of the theory of coupled waves and the method of equivalent circuits, a dispersion equation for resonant slow-wave systems with an electron beam is obtained. For an electrodynamic system in the form of a folded waveguide with given geometric parameters and calculated electrodynamic characteristics, an equivalent circuit is constructed, and its parameters ...

Electron Beam Action and High Charging of Dust Particles
Kopnin S.I., Morozova T. I., Popel S.I., IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science 2018 Vol. 46 No. 4 P. 701–703
A theory is developed which describes the processes of dust particle charging in the situation when dust particles are subjected to the action of a beam of electrons. It is shown that in this situation it is necessary to consider the electron field emission in addition to the influence of the electron beam on the ...

Yelizarov (Elizarov) A. A., Measurement Techniques, USA 2013 № 11 С. 57–59
Analytical expressions for determining the complex slowing factor and reflection coefficient are obtained using a general form of the dispersion equation of the slow-wave system and taking into account the properties of the medium surrounding it. These parameters can also be measured experimentally. It is shown that the determination of these quantities enables a simplified ...
