This paper examines the game-based approach in foreign language teaching. The author analyzed main difficulties that occurs in studying of Chinese language. According to the results of this work author proposed the methodological approach which helps to effectively solve the problem of the language barrier. The article considers the model of the lexical game named "Cards", that suits well both for the Chinese or any other foreign language. The first part of the paper describes in detail the rules of the game. The game does not require a long preparatory and organizational work, it’s dynamic, easy to perform, fast in activating various language skills of students. The format of the game involves the active speaking of the leading student, who needs to explain 10 lexical cards in 2 minutes. He needs to recognize the word or expression written in characters, and then clearly and quickly pronounce the explanation in Chinese, while the other students are participating actively to guess the word. They need to understand and shout out the word in Chinese. The vocabulary set, which is the basis for the game, can be updated all the time and goes more complicate following the teaching program. In the second part of the paper the author reveals importance of the proper work with new vocabulary – which is now becoming a preparatory stage for the game. It requires not only the use of the non-translational method of semantization, but also to set right semantic connections and proper situational fixation. A properly organized study of the new vocabulary, combined with the regular in class gaming, gives an excellent result in practice, helps to increase the motivation of students and improves the teambuilding.
