Effect of Social Graph Structure on the Utilization Rate in a Flat Organization
P. 214-224.
The goal of our research is to investigate how the communication structure of an organization affects its performance. In the paper, we study a simulation model of a self-organizing team conducting scientific research. The key parameter of the model is the social graph of the organization, which defines the team creation process. For this model, we formally define the average utilization rate of the group. Under some natural condition, the utilization rate is a function of the social graph. Lower and upper bounds of this characteristic are established. The obtained result has evident practical meaning and policy implications for organization management.

In this paper, we study evolution of a social graph structure under the leverage of various projects performed by self-organizing teams.
Suppose we have a group of specialists with different skills. Some of the team members are acquainted with each other, which is expressed by a social graph. We assume that each project requires a variety ...

Abstract
Introduction Alcohol consumption is a considerable public health problem that is especially harmful to young people. To develop effective prevention programmes targeted at adolescents, it is important to understand the social mechanisms triggering alcohol consumption. Among such mechanisms, peer influence plays an important role. The effects of peer influence are very difficult to evaluate because of ...

In online social networks, high level features of user behavior such as character traits can be predicted with data from user profiles and their connections. Recent publications use data from online social networks to detect people with depression propensity and diagnosis. In this study, we investigate the capabilities of previously published methods and metrics applied to the Russian online social ...

In this paper, we propose and implement a method for detecting intersecting and nested communities in graphs of interacting objects of different natures. For this, two classical algorithms are taken: a hierarchical agglomerate and one based on the search for k-cliques. The combined algorithm presented is based on their consistent application. In addition, parametric options ...

A feature-rich network is a network whose nodes are characterized by categorical or quantitative features. We propose a data-driven model for finding a partition of the nodes to approximate both the network link data and the feature data. The model involves summary quantitative characteristics of both network links and features. We distinguish between two modes ...

Decades ago, alongside more traditional structuralist paradigms that were largely based on linguistic theorems (Lotman 1972, Titzmann 1977), literary studies began to undertake structural analyses based on empirical sociology, in particular the social network analysis. Structure was no longer solely defined by semantic relations (such as opposition or equivalence), but by social interactions, too (Marcus ...
